About Tallozaxe
Tallozaxe is an independent informational reference covering the maintenance side of residential wood heating in Canada. The focus is narrow on purpose: chimney inspections, creosote, WETT certification, hearth clearances, and firewood seasoning.
What this site is
The pages here gather and explain widely published guidance on wood-heat maintenance so a homeowner can understand what a sweep, inspector, or insurer is referring to. The notes describe how things work and where the rules come from. They are written to be read once and understood, not to sell anything.
What this site is not
This is not an inspection service and not a substitute for one. The numbers that matter for a real installation — clearances, floor protection, connector limits — come from the appliance label and from CSA B365, confirmed on site by a qualified person. Nothing here overrides your appliance's instructions, your local building and fire code, or the authority having jurisdiction in your municipality.
How the notes are sourced
The content references publicly available material from recognized bodies in the field. Where a figure could vary by appliance or province, the notes use neutral wording and point you to the primary source rather than printing a number that might not apply to your situation.
- WETT Inc. — Wood Energy Technology Transfer, the Canadian wood-heat training and certification program.
- Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) — chimney and venting education and certification.
- National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) — publisher of NFPA 211 on chimneys, fireplaces, and vents.
- Natural Resources Canada — federal guidance on residential wood heating.
